Painted in 2011, this series is inspired by those who inspire me. I almost always listen to music while painting, and these are a few artists who have taken me "there." Each is paired with a quote from the artist that hold particularly spoken to me. These are folks who I give many thanks to, without them, there would be no me - at least certain parts. In addition to musical artists, I included Frida Kaho, my sister from another mister, who was a brave and bold and true trailblazer. Her's reads "Pies, para que los quiero Si tengo alas para volar" - feet, what do i need them for if I have wings to fly. <3
I had a vision to challenge myself to paint 100 paintings in the first 100 days of the year in 2010. Although I didnt ever reach 100, this was a great journey. I made a video blog about the experience and the work. This taught me a lot about dedication, staying on course, accountability, the creative process, fatigue, and much more. Though I wouldnt reccommend it to another, this was a part of my artistic journey I needed to explore. Here is some of the work from the project.
Primary, 20"x20", 2010
Blueprint Two, 48"x24", 2008
These pieces were painted around the idea of the intricate ways our lives simply... work out. about the plans that God has for us that we never could imagine on our own, the way things always end up fitting together, and working out. What amazing plans he has for each of us!
Some work doesnt have a series or on purpose family. Sometimes I just get a vision or feeling for one singular thing. I see certain colors in my head that I am supposed to be using, sometimes shapes or symnols.... I try to let my arm and the paint flow freely, in a way that *feels* right...
Twogether, 30"x48", 2008
These works are collaborations with the talented and prolific poet Michelle Antoinette Nelson AKA "LOVE the Poet". A series of twenty works with poetry inspired by the artwork written by LOVE and then painted onto the pieces by Liz. None of these works could exist without the talent of the other, thats one of the things I like most about working with other artists, it takes me beyond my own realm, past my own visions.
Beauty, 24"x36", 2007
